Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 July 2026
The short version: UtterKey has no user accounts and runs no cloud of its own. Your dictation audio goes directly from your computer to the AI provider whose key you supply — we never receive it, store it, or see it.
What happens when you dictate
- Audio is recorded on your device while you hold the hotkey.
- It is sent directly to the AI provider you chose (for example Groq or OpenAI) using your own API key, over an encrypted connection, to be transcribed and cleaned.
- The finished text is typed into the app you're using, on your device.
- UtterKey (AUTARKEA LTD) operates no server in that path. We cannot access your audio or your text.
Your provider processes that audio under its terms and privacy policy, under your own account with them. Choose a provider whose handling you're comfortable with — their policies, not ours, govern that step.
What stays on your device
- Your API keys — stored in the operating system's secure keychain (macOS Keychain / Windows Credential Manager).
- Your settings, snippets, vocabulary, and corrections — stored in local files.
- A local diagnostic log (no audio, no dictated text content) that never leaves your machine unless you choose to send it to support.
What we receive
- Purchases: handled by our merchant of record, Creem, which shares with us your name, email, and licence details so your licence works and we can support you. Creem's own privacy policy covers payment data; we never see card numbers.
- Licence checks: the app periodically validates your licence key online; this involves the key and a device identifier, not your dictation.
- Support email: whatever you choose to send us at hello@utterkey.com.
We don't run analytics or tracking in the app, and we don't sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing.
Your rights
AUTARKEA LTD is a UK company; UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply to the (small amount of) personal data we hold — essentially your purchase and support correspondence. You can ask us to access, correct, or delete it at hello@utterkey.com. You can also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
Changes
If this policy changes materially we'll post the new version here with a new date.
